Waiting on 26.2
A couple of months ago, I was kicking off a perfect training cycle for the Shamrock Marathon. Then a stomach bug hit. Then I had a couple of rough sleeping nights. Then I felt bad again for a couple of days with a cold.
Running the Shamrock Marathon in a little more than a month is certainly possible, but I'd be rushing things. I would have to do too much mileage too quickly. I'm not in it to just finish or alter my training to do a run/walk plan.
It just wasn't meant to be.
And I'm perfectly OK with that. Despite those setbacks, I've had some great base mileage and some good long runs that are perfect for doing a half marathon.
So in a little more than 5 weeks, my tradition of running the Shamrock Half Marathon will continue. I'll be in the best shape I've been in for this race -- I don't know if that will translate into a speedy race and just a really good overall run, but I am comfortable with my decision ...
... which led to another decision to make sure I put a 26.2 event on my calendar ... the Blue Ridge Marathon in Roanoke in April.
