A quick look back at January 2015
I’m a little behind in focusing on February as I just spent a weekend away from a lot of technology for work. I'm eager, though, to get this month rolling.
January was an interesting month. I was faced with a huge decision of changing my marathon plans as I was presented with an unbelievable opportunity to run in a huge, well-known event a week before Shamrock.
After a lot of thinking and wavering I decided not to do it this year … then a few days later I got a terrible stomach virus that was the confirmation I needed to just stick with my original plans when it comes to marathon planning.
That stomach virus led to missing a long run and a recovery run, and then cut into my mileage the next week. I was wiped out completely that next week and cut my long run well short of my initial goal.
The second half of the month, though, has been great. I rebounded well to get in a couple of good long runs. I’m not quite where I want to be, but I can't complain too much since it's the middle of winter.
My January miles ended at 80.5 miles well short of the 100+ I wanted to get in, but not bad considering how sick I was the second weekend of the month.
As I look ahead to this rest of this month, my goals are simple. Run more, but run smart. I want to get to 100+ miles for the month and increase my long runs to 16-18 miles. I’m not setting a goal for Shamrock yet, but I think that may come sometime in the next few weeks.
I’m really happy with my state of running, and I can’t wait to see what transpires the rest of this winter.
