As the first 3 months of the year come to a close, I can't help but think about how it feels like a disappointment with an awful Shamrock Half. Overall, though, it was actually a really nice start to the year.
I've had to rearrange a lot though based on a really bad stomach bug in January, a few rough nights with my youngest sun and fewer miles because of the weather in late February/early March. Changing from the Shamrock Marathon to the Half was an easy decision; I also realized I wasn't ready for the Blue Ridge Marathon and have switched to the half for that in a few weeks.
In fact, I'm not sure how I feel about a marathon this year. More on that below as I look at where I stand with my goals for the year:
1. Run 3 new races.
There really weren't any opportunities for this in Q1, so I'm not too worried about the big ZERO for this so far.
2. Run 1,000 miles.
The bright spot in running for Q1 has been more miles without feeling like I'm pushing it too much. I'm at 265.2 for the year, well on pace for more than 1,000. Now I just need to do some faster miles so my legs don't hate me on a race day.
3. Run a 3:45 marathon.
I was so excited about marathon training at the end of 2014, but I feel like I have so many other things to work on right now before I focus on this distance. I might change this goal in the coming month, but I'm not set on the decision yet.
