Marathon week has arrived

Five days and 11 hours from now, I’ll be at the start line of my first marathon in exactly 6 years and 3 months. It’s also just my third race in the past year after taking a two-year (not always intentional) break.
There’s so much on my mind and there are so many things I feel like I have forgotten about when it comes to a marathon, so here’s attempt to calm my jitters by typing …
Race weather looks good, for now. I’ve already been stalking it for a few days, and it’s stayed pretty consistent with temps being in the 50s for the race and about 70 the day of, with a small chance of rain.
I’ve settled on what I’m wearing. I rarely do that so far ahead of time, so I fully expect to change my mind at some point this week.
Music or no music? I used to be absolutely against racing with headphones, but now that I have AfterShokz, I feel a little differently about it. I don’t “need” it, but I like having music in the middle sections of my runs. So file that under TBD.
I’ve already started a list of things to remember to take. Since I’m so focused on race day, someone remind me on Thursday to pack my underwear for after the race.
Lastly … one thing that’s not different than any other race is questioning whether or not I ran enough, but this race is so much different. I don’t like the phrase or goal of “just finishing,” but that’s where I am with something as wild as the Blue Ridge Marathon. I have no expectations and I don’t care how long it takes me to do it. This has been something I’ve wanted to do for a decade.
