living in the now

Still rambling about running. Sometimes other things.

A February update: Still here!

My plans to blog more about running quickly changed after I started a new job where I'm writing and editing more than I ever have before.

Every time I think I'm going to sit down and write a post, I'm too tired to do it. And now, all of a sudden, I've had my longest gap ever between posts.

I hate that it's happened, but it's the reality I'm in right now. I'm not going to make any promises about writing more.

Here are a few things that have been on my mind in the past month and a half:

1. I'm a Rock 'n' Roll race ambassador! I announced that a while ago on Twitter, but now it's officially official.

2. My first stop in becoming an ambassador was to find at least one race that will fit my schedule and include a return to a marathon. I settled on the Savannah Marathon in November. Much more on all that later. (Maybe!)

3. Shamrock is just three Sundays away. WHAT? My goal of a PR is still on my mind, but I don't know if that's realistic, which leads me to No. 4

4. I finally got to a long run of 10 miles today, but I wanted to do that at least two weeks ago. My overall mileage is about 10-15 percent less than what I want, but I've had some good hill workouts and good speed work at weekly basketball games. So ... we'll see.

5. At least for Shamrock I'll have a nice new green shirt:

New shirt for Shamrock. And I need a haircut. #runchat #shamrockon16

6. My cross training has been awful, but I've done some really simple workouts this week other than running.

7. It's been cold and snowy, then warm, then cold, then we had tornadoes an hour away this week. I can't believe I didn't even blog about my snow runs at the end of January!

8. A beautiful snow run! ;)

9. One of the things I've had to adjust to in the past couple of months is my new schedule. I'm not running at 5 a.m., so I've moved my normal run time in the week to 4 p.m. That's certainly not an easy time to run, but I know I'll get used to it eventually.

10. At one of the recent #RunChat hours, a few people got a little negative about people who love race medals. #RunChat is a mostly positive experience and I certainly understand that we'll have topics that aren't appealing to everyone. I won't ever apologize for that.

If there's something you don't like, it's really easy to not answer that question, or do it in a way that can add value to the conversation. You never know when you might meet someone from #RunChat in real life ...
